Carousel
Damon Hubbs
the henna girls on the carousel hand-crank us the bird
and disappear into hares
foxes / barn owls / wolves
we index our love without lyric shame
slip letters into lockers like cracker jack toys hidden in glass eyes,
thematize our making in the path of the moon
until chandeliers suspire
and the panel paintings fail
to move like heaven and earth
until the last stalk is cut
and the legs of mustangs torque
and break
